Life can change rapidly..
Thursday afternoon was like any other. I was preparing to end my workday and head home. Then my cell phone began ringing. I answered and heard a good friend telling me that my daughter’s dance teacher needed to speak with me.
Suddenly I was listening as she recounted how my Daddy had been carrying my daughter out of the studio when he tripped and fell. Joycie had hit her head on the concrete. I was told that she seemed fine but was being taken to the hospital as a precaution.
The next 20 mins dragged as I drove from my office to our house to pick up my husband and then to the hospital. When we arrived she was being taken for a CT scan.
Joycie reached for my hand and held tight. I reassured her she was fine while silently praying it was true.
After the scan, we hung out in the emergency room until the results came back from the radiologist.
Thirty minutes later we learned that she was fine. Although she would likely be sore.
Joycie was happy to get off the backboard and have the collar taken off. The doctors then let us go visit my Daddy who was getting his own x-rays. Turns out he broke his leg in 2 places during the fall.
He was admitted to the hospital that night and underwent surgery Friday afternoon to repair the breaks.
He is doing well as he recovers from surgery and learns to use his walker. We were supposed to be in Atlanta this weekend for college football. Instead we watched the game from Daddy’s hospital room.
So it wasn’t what we had planned but we were together and healthy, and when I think about how things could have gone I feel very blessed.
